"Out of all that you receive, you will set a portion aside for God, Out of all these things you will set aside the best… "
( Num. 18:29 )

"…Priesthood are obliged by the law to take tithes from the people, that is from their own brothers… " (Heb. 7:5)

THE practice of paying tithes is very ancient; for we find, Gen 14; 20, that Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek, King of Salem, at this return from his expedition against Chedorlaomer with him. Abraham gave him the tithes of all the booty taken from the enemy. Jacob imitated this piety of his grandfather when he vowed to the lord the tithe of all the substance he might acquire in Mesopotamia. Under the law, Moses ordained Levites to collect tithes. (A tenth part of a person’s produce or income, given for religious purpose)

It is our Duty and responsibility to support the church and the pastors. The precepts of the Church are very explicit and vivid. The fifth precept of the Church states that, “to contribute to the support our pastors”. The Catechism of the Catholic Church also makes a mention of it in No.2043/3 “the faithful also have the duty of providing for the material needs of the church each according to his abilities”. Even The code of Canon Low No.222/1 states that, “Christ faithful have the obligation to provide for the needs of the church, so that the church has available to fit those things which are necessary for divine worship, for apostolic and charitable works and for the worthy support of its ministers.

God has blessed us abundantly. The Lord always appreciates the cheerful giver. He blesses them with 100 fold. The Church cannot be run without the help of the faithful. There are so many things to be taken care off. The maintenance of the church, liturgical needs, electricity, celebration, decoration, and charity etc… the list is endless. As baptized persons we have the responsibility to support the church. Surely the Lord will bless you.

"Give, and there will be gifts for you: a full measure, pressed down, shaken together and overflowing, will be poured into your laps: because the standard you use will be the standard used for you" ( Lk 6:33)
